چکیده

One of the most common tasks of a robot companion in the home is communication. In order to initiate an information exchangewith its human partner, the robot needs to attract the attention of the human. This paper presents results of two user studies (N = 12) to evaluate the effectiveness of unimodal and multimodal communication cues for attracting attention. Results showed that unimodal communication cues which involve sound generate the fastest reaction times. Contrary to expectations, multimodal communication cues resulted in longer reaction timeswith respect to the unimodal communication cue that produced the shortest reaction time.

Robust Multimodal Command Interpretation for Human-Multirobot Interaction

In this work, we propose a multimodal interaction framework for robust human-multirobot communication in outdoor environments. In these scenarios, several human or environmental factors can cause errors, noise and wrong interpretations of the commands. The main goal of this work is to improve the robustness of human-robot interaction systems in similar situations. In particular, we propose a mu...

A Multimodal Nonverbal Human-robot Communication System

Socially interactive robot needs the same behaviors and capabilities of human to be accepted as a member in human society. The environment, in which this robot should operate, is the human daily life. The interaction capabilities of current robots are still limited due to complex inter-human interaction system. Humans usually use different types of verbal and nonverbal cues in their communicati...

Towards a multimodal topic tracking system for a mobile robot

Topics in situated and task oriented communication depend heavily on the given, often changing environment, making the detection of predetermined topics in many cases useless. Detection of non-predefined topics can enhance Human-Robot-Interaction (HRI) in a variety of ways, though. In this paper we propose a way to dynamically determine topics during Human-Robot-Communication using well establi...

Supporting Human-Robot Interaction Based on the Level of Visual Focus of Attention

We propose a human–robot interaction approach for social robots that attracts and controls the attention of a target person depending on her/his current visual focus of attention. The system detects the person’s current task (attention) and estimates the level by using the “task-related contextual cues” and “gaze pattern.” The attention level is used to determine the suitable time to attract th...

Multimodal Conversation between a Humanoid Robot and Multiple Persons

Attracting people and involving multiple persons into an interaction is an essential capability for a humanoid robot. A prerequisite for such a behavior is that the robot is able to sense people in its vicinity and to know where they are located. In this paper, we propose an approach that maintains a probabilistic belief about people in the surroundings of the robot. Using this belief, the robo...
